Whirinaki Forest

Full day tramp – 6 hours.

Journey from Kawerau through farmlands with Te Urewera Ranges as a backdrop on our way to Minginui where we begin our tramp.

We then take an easy loop track walking beneath the giant podocarp trees, following the track down forested terraces to the Te-Whaiti-Nui-A-Toi Canyon. Continuing on following the Whirinaki River before crossing the Moerangi and Mangamate streams to the Whirinaki Waterfalls. Here we have a refreshment break, then looping around through native bush and wildlife back to the River Road car park.

Tours include packed lunch and refreshments.

Overnight stay at Central Whirinaki Hut

Continuing on from the Discover Whirinaki Forest Park tramp – turning off to Central Whirinaki Hut.

We make our way through rainforest to Verns Camp where we have a lunch break and refreshments, and continue on to the Central Whirinaki Hut, while getting glimpses of the Whirinaki River (2.5 hours) where we spend a relaxing night with dinner and a hot drink.
