Lake Okataina

Full day tramp – 7 hours.

This tramp is unguided. Guided trips can be provided with prior arrangement.

The track is moderate and requires a good level of fitness.

With a scenic drive from Kawerau to Lake Okataina, this tramp leads you though lush native bush following the track around the lake to Humphry’s Bay (3 hours), which has an awesome view of Mount Tarawera.

Tramp inland through bush covered hills and rock canyons to the Tarawera Outlet (2.5 hours), then onto the magnificent Tarawera Falls (1.5 hours), where the shuttle will be awaiting your arrival.

This tramp includes lunch an refreshments, with an optional swim in Kawerau’s naturally heated town pools.
